That handsome structure on Rancho Santa Fe Road by the power lines is the almost completed new home for Carlsbad Fire Station 6. The state of the art facility will replace the small "temporary" structure on Levante Street that the Station 6 crews have had to live with for many years.
Fire Battalion Chief Mike Davis says the crews should be moving into the new station at the end of June. Once they have had a chance to get things together, a "grand opening" will be scheduled, probably in early August.

In November of 2006, Carlsbad voters approved Proposition D which restricted future use of the "agricultural lands" off Cannon Road near the I-5 should the farming of the land become economically unviable. These are basically the properties currently used to grow strawberries or flowers. Prop. D envisions "creating public uses and community gathering places that respect and honor the unique open space and environmental resources in this area".
The city has been holding a series of meetings since passage of the proposition and has now issued a final call for citizen input. If you want to be heard on this subject you have to respond to the survey by APRIL 1. To do so, go to: http://www.futureofcarlsbad.com/take_a_survey.htm .
